Mission

The mission of Elder Services, Inc. is to;

Logo

ESI has chosen the elderberry plant as its logo.  Elderberries are long-lived, strong plants that grow around the world.  The strength, longevity, nourishing and curative properties of this plant make it a fitting symbol to remind us of the unique and positive attributes and contributions of our older citizens, and the importance of nurturing and sustaining them throughout their lifetime.

History

Elder Services, Inc. was founded in July of 1980 as Elderly Services Agency (ESA) and was created to serve residents of Johnson County age 60 and over.  Its original mission was to help older people remain safely in their homes as long as possible by coordinating and delivering paid and volunteer services.  In the Spring of 2000, ESA moved to a bigger facility while modernizing its infrastructure and program design and officially changed its name to Elder Services, Inc.

Services

ESI is both a provider and advocate for senior citizens' ability to live independently.  ESI is dedicated to working with clients to determine individual needs and desires and to present choices to them in both the selection and delivery of services.  Our success is measured by the quality of life experienced by our clients who are able to remain safely and independently in their own homes.

Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

This program recruits and links persons 55 and older with volunteer opportunities that meet critical community needs while providing a high quality experience that enriches the lives of both volunteers and those they serve.  For more information about RSVP call 319-356-5218 or click the link above.

Home Assistance Program

This program provides a variety of non-medical services which allow seniors to remain safely and independently in their own homes.  Trained workers provide services ranging from companionship to helping residents winterize their homes.  For more information about the Home Assistance Program call 319-338-0043 or click the link above.

Nutrition Program

This program provides nutritious meals at congregate dining sites and through Meals on Wheels delivery to homebound seniors.  All meals meet one-third of the daily recommended intake established by the American Dietetic Association.  Inability to prepare meals is often the first sign of decreasing independence, therefore, Meals on Wheels may be the senior's first experience with community-based services.  For more information about the Nutrition Program call 319-338-0515 or click the link above.

Geriatric Care Services Program (GCS)

This program supports the frail and vulnerable elderly in their effort to remain independently in their own homes.  Program staff can provide answers to both seniors and family caregivers when there are questions about the needs of elders.  For more information about the Geriatric Care Services Program call 319-338-0515 or click the link above.

Case Management Program

This program uses a multidisciplinary approach to provide community-based services to the frail and vulnerable elderly to help them avoid premature institutionalization. Case Management works in conjunction with Geriatric Care Services to provide the highest level of care.  Specialists in legal case management and memory loss and Alzheimer's case management are also available.  For more information about the Case Management Program call 319-338-0515 or click the link above.

Caregiver Support Program

This program provides direct counseling and educational services to family and friend caregivers of older adults.  Information and referral services are provided in additional to counseling support classroom sessions.  For more information about the Caregiver Support Program call 319-338-0515 or click the link above.

Memory Loss Nurse Specialist Program

The memory loss program is staffed by a registered nurse who has specialized training in the areas of aging, memory loss, and dementia.  The nurse provides support to individuals with memory loss or dementia and their caregivers to enable the individual with memory loss or dementia to live safely at home as long as possible.
