IMPROVING LIVES, STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES & MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Many RSVP volunteers enjoy RSVP's intergenerational activitites because they are "results-oriented," giving children building blocks for success. All of the RSVP literacy programs strengthen reading, writing and speaking skills in an enjoyable, productive atmosphere.
ACADEMIC MENTORING PROGRAM
The Academic Mentoring Program (AMP) is a new program in the Iowa City Community School District that is designed to match volunteer mentors with students in grades 4-8.
READING TOGETHER
This program matches volunteers with second and third grade students to tutor them on reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. This program is research based and contains well-structured lesson plans. Tutors meet with the same student for 45 minutes each week during the school year. In each session, the tutors read a book to the student and then the student reads a simpler book on the same topic
