Caregiver Support Program

The Caregiver Support Program provides direct counseling and educational services to family members, adult children, spouses, or friends who are caregivers to older adults.  Whether you need help now or in the future, this program is available to anyone.  The Family Caregiver Support Program Information and Assistance Specialist at the Heritage Area Agency on Aging will provide personalized information to assist the needs of caregivers.

Services

The available resource database covers a seven county area and includes the following services;

Counseling Specialists

Each Counseling Specialist is a licensed social worker and provides support to the caregiver by recognizing the emotional aspects involved in this type of commitment.  Counselors provide support to caregivers by helping them to identify and find solutions to their particular needs and challenges.  They can also provide information about a particular disease and refer caregivers to other community services.

Costs

There is no charge to meet with a Counseling Specialist, however, there may be a charge for suggested services such as respite care or adult day care. 

Eligibility

Anyone can call the Information and Assistance Specialist toll-free at 1-866-432-4324.  In order to access the caregiver support services, either the caregiver or the care recipient must reside in one of the counties served by ESI; Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Washington.
